Hijo de la Luna is a spanish ballad that moves me to tears whenever I pay attention to the lyrics while listening to it (even though I hardly understand a half of it, I get the gist and that seems to be enough to bring a tear to my eye).
It tells a story of a gypsy woman who desires to marry a particular gypsy man and so she begs the Moon to make it happen. The Moon agrees to do so, but in exchange it wants her first baby. The woman wonders what the Moon would do with a baby of flesh and blood. Well, as the story goes, the gypsy woman and man have a baby, however, it is white as snow. The man gets mad at his wife for he believes that she betrayed him, as the baby apparently isn't a gypsy baby. He takes a knife, stabs her to death and takes the child into the mountains, where he abandons it (..and the Moon becomes a mother - hence the name "The Moon's Child"). From then on, the Moon is full whenever the baby is happy and when in cries the Moon wanes to make it a cradle.
Oh, such a moving story. I just hope I didn't misinterpret anything and didn't make a tragic story out of a joyful one. :) Now, I wish the piano cover brings up even more emotions after reading this introduction.
